Episode 5: Ensuing Rivalry! Eggman Builds the Flying Egg Base

Down on Moebius, Michiru and Haruka look worriedly out a window from a guard tower in Creecreeopolis. The stars shine brightly outside.

"I wonder. When was this place built?"

"It's very old." Michiru closed her eyes. "As old as the civilization on

this planet."

"How do you know? It seems so recent to me." Haruka knocked on the stone.

"Haruka...you seem worried tonight."

"I am."

"Why?"

"I...Well...I'm worried for that kid."

"Tails?"

"Yeah. The company he keeps. That's what's worrying me."

"Why?" Michiru, even more worried, tried to press.

"Because." Haruka looked out onto the city. "It's a matter of trust. That's it. Just please, stop asking."

Michiru became silent.

"That guy..." Haruka thought. "That friend of his...something isn't quite right with him. I can't tell the kid, though. It would break his heart. And..." At this she closed her eyes. "God knows I've broken one too many hearts..."

Her mind started to wonder, and in her ear a sound memory in the form of a soft spoken laugh.

"I understand, Haruka." Michiru's reply jolted Haruka from her thoughts.

Come on, let's get back to our rooms."

"Right..."

They left the place, joining hands. Haruka looked up into the night sky, hoping to find comfort in its light.

"Well!" Sonic and Rotor were facing Tails as he entered. "Where have you been? We were worried sick!"

Tails opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Sonic.

"You know how dangerous big cities can be..." Sonic shook his head in frustration. "And with all of those new enemies, and those incidents, you should be careful. You shouldn't be going out."

"But Sonic!" Tails objected. "I can take care of myself! I can investigate without getting hurt!"

Sonic's head whipped around to face him again. Tails noticed something strange in Sonic's eyes. They seemed angry and cold. Tails felt goosebumps all over his skin at the look. But a second later, Sonic shuddered, and his eyes turned to normal.

"You're right Tails," he said silently. "I'm sorry. If you think you can handle what might be happening, then investigate. But..." he paused, then continued. "Just be careful."

Without another word, he left the room.

"What's his problem lately, Rotor?" Tails wondered. "I'm getting really worried."

"Me too..." Rotor looked out the window. "That's strange..."

"What?"

"It looks like the skyline of the city's extended out to the fields..."

Rotor laughed. "I guess that's what happens at night. It's been like that. Oh well, it must be one of the city's weird quirks."

"I guess." Tails couldn't see anything. "Well, goodnight, Rotor."

"Night, Tails."

Tails knocked on Sonic's door.

"Night, Sonic," he said sadly.

"Yeah, Tai...ai....AH-CHOO!!"

Tails went to his room and closed the door.

Nearby, on the outskirts of the city, a large skyline loomed as it was being built. In the makeshift city robots of all shapes and sizes were hammering away at the infrastructures of buildings. At the center of the city being built, Eggman and a robot were going over details of construction plans.

"Are all of the buildings on schedule?"

"Every one." The robot replied.

"Has the aerodynamical balance of the base ground been tested?"

"Tested, retested and ready to go."

"And the robotization tubes? Are they operational?"

"All robotization tubes and building facilities, smokestacks, prisons, bedrooms, sanctums, bathrooms, restaurants, movie theaters, hot dog stands and Internet ports have been deemed operational."

"Perfect!!" Eggman laughed. "Now, soon shall come the time of my realization. My operation shall take place within the next twenty-four hours."

He turned on a hologram machine. On it, a map of the city was in place.

"Once my new base is operational and up," he clicked a switch, "It shall be the most feared flying creation since my beautiful Death Egg." Before he went on, he wiped a tear from his eye from the mention. "However, this time it will not be so easy to destroy. Using a special impenetrable alloy that combines some of the planet's hardest metal, an alloy that only I know the formula to in making and destroying it, I can create a flat baseline city that can traverse the planet without a single hair of resistance! It is in the memory of my previous territorial possession, Eggmanland-" here he sniffed again, "that I name this base, New Eggmanland."

He stopped. His face contorted in disgust.

"No, no!" He fumed. "It doesn't sound right! 'New Eggmanland'...it sounds like I'm Canadian! No, no...it must empathize what I really love doing. Wait...I don't love. I hate people! Anti-People Palace. Grrrr..."

A robot tripped over a wire and fell flat on it's face. Other robots went over to help him. Eggman turned around to see the commotion.

"What!" he stormed over. "What is the meaning of..."

He stopped. The robots shook in terror, braced for the inevitable scrapping. However, they looked to see Eggman standing there, a big evil smile on his face.

"Good, good..." he rubbed his hands together. "Yes, yes! Robot City! No..Mechaville! Mechaburg! Robodelphia! I christen this base Robodelphia! No..." As he thought, his smile grew even eviler. "From this day forward, the city of Creecreeopolis shall know this base as it's match...Robotropolis! Yes, yes, YES! Robotropolis, the Flying Egg Base, and the greatest force on Moebius, even rivaling the Master Emerald and it's Chaos Emeralds. Ah, yes! The sweet feeling of knowing I'm right is flushing my cheeks!"

The laugh that followed verberated through the city.

"Now, are we ready?!" Eggman ran up into his main control room and sat down. "Ten minutes to launch!"

He picked up a piece of computer paper. On it was a picture of a girl wearing black.

"Not only am I up against those meddlesome freedom fighters..." he thought. "A new rival has appeared on the streets of Creecreeopolis, threatening my right to invade! But not just any enemy...an enemy against the Freedom Fighters as well! One that can deploy monsters! This cannot be allowed! I defeated their last monster, but I'll never rest until my defeat at Imperial Park is avenged!"

He stood up and looked out the window at the nearly complete city sprawled before him.

"No one...but no one...defeats Eggman, scientist extraordinaire, and gets away with it!!" The moon was waning. "No one!"

"Nnnnngh..." Michiru pulled on a screw on the helicopter.

"There." Haruka wiped her eyes. "Good as new. This baby won't be making strange noises for a while."

The two were on top of an apartment building of the other side of the city, repairing the helicopter, which had been damaged from the first encounter with Cleona.

"So you gave him our apartment number?"

"Yes."

"You seem taken by that boy."

"Yes." Michiru smiled. "He's so vibrant, like he-"

"Don't."

"Haruka?"

"Just please don't mention her."

"All right." Michiru was saddened.

Haruka's head went up. A soft breeze went through her hair.

"A change of wind..." Haruka was alarmed. "Stronger than normal. Does it mean..."

"Hi!!" The two turned to see Tails coming through the door that went to the stairs. "Hi, Haruka! Hi, Michiru!"

"Why hello, Tails." Michiru smiled. "What brings you here?"

"Hey, you two..." Nathan panted as he straddled behind.

"Ah, Tweedledum..." Haruka commented.

"I made you something, Michiru." Tails gave her the sound recorder. "It's for when you make an album."

"Thank you." Michiru was surprised.

"You're welcome." Tails gave her a big smile.

"You know," Haruka smiled. "Back where we come from, Michiru recorded albums too."

"Really?" Tails was excited. He didn't notice Haruka's head go up again in alarm. "What kind of albums?"

Haruka suddenly jumped on top of the helicopter.

"STOP!" she yelled as she pointed her pen. She looked, then dropped her pen. "Huh?"

She had seen a familiar shadow, but before she could confront it the shadow left.

"Haruka?!" The three looked up. "What's wrong?!"

"Uh...nothing..." Haruka started to chuckle. "I just thought I saw something. There's nothing here..."

For some odd reason, the ground started to rumble.

"Hmmmmm?" Haruka turned around. Her face became dark, and so did the sky.

"What?!" Everybody looked up. A huge shadow was blocking the sun and was being flown with propellers.

"Is this some kind of joke? What the hell is that?!" Nathan shouted over the loud noises.

"No way...it can only be...Eggman?!" Tails realized. "Then it's true!!"

"Huh?!" Michiru looked at him.

"We were sent a letter about Eggman's new base in this city," Tails shouted. "This must be it!!"

"You are correct!!" Another voice caused them to turn around. They were confronted by Eggman, who was flying in his hovercraft. "My little furry friend, Tails."

"What do you want, Eggman!" Tails went in a fighting stance. "What is this!"

"So this is Eggman!" Haruka turned to Michiru. "Be ready."

Michiru touched her pen and nodded.

"So, what do you think of the beautiful Robotropolis Flying Egg Base?"

Eggman motioned to it. "My crowning achievement, and the masterpiece of a genius. Not to mention air-conditioned and alternated solar/battery/fossil fuel cells! State of the art!"

"It's loud!" Nathan screamed. "If you're going to invade our city, try to tone it down! The old ladies'll kill you!"

"I'm not impressed!" Tails flew up to Eggman. "You'll have to do better than a flying base to get the best of us! We trashed your Death Egg and we'll do the same to this base!"

"Ah, Tails, forever the optimist boy of the two attractions of the travelling freak show," Eggman chuckled. "Try as you might, no one can defeat my Egg Base. Only I know its weakness."

"Grrrrrrr..."

Something caught Haruka's eye from the right.

"Tails!" she screamed as she jumped up. "WATCH OUT!!"

A monster, who had appeared almost out of nowhere, missed getting Tails, as Haruka had thrown him down, but instead got Haruka in the ankle as she fell. She fell on her side with a grunt.

"Haruka!" Michiru screamed. She ran over to her. "Are you all right?!"

"Nnnngh..." Haruka grunted. "Nothing I can't handle."

The monster turned around, aimed and slammed into Eggman's hovercraft, causing it to wildly careen. Howver, Eggman steadied it, and he was not thrown.

"Damn!" the monster swore.

"Heheh..." Eggman took out a laser and pointed it at the monster. "Brilliant move, man, but not good enough to unsaddle this cowboy!" His head turned to Haruka. "I congratulate you on your little performance as well, young lady."

He sneered. "You can't fool me with your cross-dressing, and those kind of stuns won't do you any good!"

"Nor will it help you, fat man."

Out of nowhere an attack almost smashed into Eggman's hovercraft. However, a shield came up and protected him.

"Rrraugh!!" Eggman angrily clenched his teeth.

"I finally found you, fat man." Cleona appeared in front of the group. Her eye caught Tails. She gave a little smile. "Heheh..."

Michiru caught this and put a hand on Tails, her eyes squinted.

"The little boy too...my monster almost got two birds with one stone." She lughed. "What the hell! I'll deal with you later, brat. I've got a bigger fish to fry."

"Ha!" Eggman laughed. "I would like to see your pathetic monster get rid of me."

"Cylinderhead!" Cleona turned to her monster. "Double Monster Muscle Attack!"

"You got it!!!"

The monster threw itself at Eggman, screeching. Eggman took out a gun and blasted it, sending it flying.

"Waaaaaaagggghhhhh!!!"

"How dare you!!" Cleona clenched her fists. "You bastard!!"

"Heheh..." Eggman suddenly flew away. "I'd like to see you catch me, you anorexic freak!! Hahahahahahaha!!!!"

"Rrrrrrraaaauuuugggghhhhh!!!" Cleona, completely infuriated, dashed after him.

Michiru and Haruka looked at each other and nodded.

"Let's do it." Michiru took out her pen. "We can't let Eggman and this enemy destroy the city!"

"Huhhh??" Nathan saw a dark red butterfly on his shoe. "How cute..." he cooed. "It's so small..."

The butterfly suddenly flew up and away, starting in the direction of the two combatants.

"Huh?" Nathan was amazed. "What the..."

"Uranus Planet Power!"

"Neptune Planet Power!"

"Make-Up!"

The two transformed. The red butterfly stopped and waited for them.

"Hey!" Nathan pointed. "I think that butterfly knows where the girl and Eggman are! I say we just follow it."

"Say!" Tails said. "That is a nice butterfly."

"What butterfly?" Neptune asked.

"That one!" Tails pointed.

"I don't see it..." Uranus looked amused. "You're sure?"

"Positive. I can see it too." Nathan replied. He shook his head. The butterfly started flying off again.

"Come on!" Tails grabbed Nathan's hand and started to fly off.

"Tails?!" The two soldiers screamed.

"Come back!" Uranus was stopped by the ledge of the building.

"Hurry!" Naptune grabbed Uranus' hand. "Down the stairs!"

"Come on, Rotor!" Sonic suddenly appeared in the shop. "Let's go."

"Sonic?!" Rotor cried. "Where have you been?! We were-"

"No time." Sonic grabbed Rotor's hand and ran out of the shop. Manic and Sonia looked at each other.

"Queer." Manic shook his head. "I don't know..."

"I have to make a call." Sonia left.

"Right."

"Hyaaaaahhhh!!!"

The monster and Eggman clashed. Eggman simply kept blasting Cylinderhead with his laser. Cylinderhead, meanwhile, was getting weaker and weaker.

"Damnit..." Cleona's eyes flashed.

"Heheh..." Eggmahn turned to Cleona. "You're not so tough after all, are you, pixie?"

"Grrrrr..." Cleona lifted her hands. A huge ball of energy materialized.

"Huh?" Eggman's lips turned down.

"Grim Reaper Spade!!" Cleona threw a huge attack at him. Eggman screamed.

"By the way, it's Cleona. How do you like me now, fat man!!"

"Aiiiiiieeeee!!!!" Eggman ducked.

However, the attack was deflected by a ball of water.

"Huh??" Eggman looked down to the ground. He saw two girls dressed in strange sailor suits.

"Damn!" Cleona screamed. "You again!"

"That's right." Uranus crossed her arms. "We've defeated you two times already. We'll gladly do it again."

"So your name is Cleona?" Neptune stood next to Uranus. "I suppose you think we should be impressed with it? Don't worry. Your will be mud when we're finished with you."

"I think that it will be you when I'm finished with you!" Cleona attacked them with another spade attack. The two soldiers dodged it. "That, and the kid! All of you will die!"

"Wow!" Tails and Nathan appeared. "This is weird..."

"Shit!" Nathan looked up. "That woman from Imperial Park! That's the enemy?!"

"Ha!" Cleona suddenly turned around and dove for them. The two boys screamed.

A laser blast hit her. Cleona screamed, holding her shoulder.

"Rrrraaaaauuuugggghhh!!!" She swerved around to see Eggman.

"Heheheheh..." Eggman chuckled. "No one touches the brat but me!"

His response was a punch in the face. His hovercraft swerved again, this time out of sight.

"Now that he's temporarily out of the way..." Cleona turned around and went to attack Tails and Nathan, who were still hovering in the air.

"NO!" Uranus screamed. "World Shaking!"

The blast hit Cleona as she attacked Tails and Nathan. The whiplash of the attacks caused Tails to once again black out, and he let go of Nathan as they both fell to the ground.

"Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!" Nathan screamed as he fell.

"TAILS!!! NATHAN!!!" Neptune rushed to intercept them. "NOOOOO!!!"

Nathan was suddenly caught by Cylinderhead, who had been quiet the whole time.

"Heheh..."

"Let go of me!!" Nathan struggled to break free, but was unable to.

"Now for the brat..." Cylinderhead went for Tails, who was still falling, unconscious.

"I don't think so!" Nathan slapped her.

"Ass!" Cylinderhead punched Nathan, knocking him unconscious. She went to get Tails, but saw that he had disappeared. "Huh? Where did he go?!"

He eye caught another laser blast in her direction. She dodged it, and it hit the bottom of the Egg Base, which merely absorbed the power.

"Aw...sh...shoes that smell!" Rotor never liked cussing very much. He cocked his laser again. "Going again..."

"Huh?!" Neptune and Uranus turned to see Rotor. "What are you doing here?!"

"Hello..." Uranus felt a tap on her shoulder. She turned, only to dodge Sonic's punch.

"Hey!" Neptune was shocked. She saw that Tails was over Sonic's shoulder.

"What are you doing?"

"Fool!" Cleona laughed. She turned to Cylinderhead. "Let's go. We'll finish them off soon enough."

She gave Sonic a little evil eye, and then turned and did the same with the two sailors before she and her monsters flew up into the bottom of the Egg Base, going through the metal as they laughed. After they finally left, Sonic turned to the two soldiers.

"So you're the ones who gave Tails the stupid ideas..."

"We did nothing, Sonic." Uranus replied in a cold tone that Neptune had rarely ever heard her use. "He does it on his own free will. We have no control."

"Yeah, well, after this thing is defeated," Sonic turned away with Tails in tow. "You can say goodbye. I'm not going to allow you freaks to touch him again."

He left before the soldiers could reply. Rotor ran up to them.

"What are you?" he demanded. "Are you with Eggman?"

"No." Uranus replied. "Then again, try telling your little friend that."

"We must get him back." Neptune looked up. "We'll get Nathan back."

"All right." Rotor was happy that these mysterious people were on their side. He started to walk away. "Well, I can try talking sense into Sonic, but..." he turned back and looked at them His eyes were filled with worry. "You know, I'm starting to think there's something wrong with him. But I'll try."

"Won't we all," Uranus muttered under her breath.

As Rotor walked away, the red butterfly followed him.

"Hehe..." Cleona laughed as she entered a dark room on the Egg Base. She motioned for Cylinderhead to put Nathan down. The monster obeyed and threw him to the ground.

"What do we do now, master?" Cylinderhead asked exitedly.

"I'm going to have fun..." Cleona started to laugh again. Her laugh resonated throughout the base.

"Damn..." Uranus and Neptune entered their rooms, dejected. They both sat down on the bed.

"This is terrible..." Neptune shook her head. "What have we done to incur Sonic's anger?"

"Nothing." Uranus stood up. "That's the problem."

"What do you mean?"

The two untransformed.

"I'm getting something in the kitchen." Michiru went to leave the room. I'll be-"

She stopped, her face turning pale.

"Michiru?!" Haruka ran to her. "What's wrong? Your trembling..."

"Oh, she'll be doing more than that."

Suddenly, a laser was pointed at Haruka's face. She looked up to see Eggman, grinning evilly.

"Oh, yes, and so will you," Eggman laughed. "When I'm through with the two of you! Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!"

The little red butterfly fluttered over the apartment building, listening to Eggman's laughter, before flying off into the distance.
